THE STALEMATE OF TERMINUS

Approximate battle lines in Terminus. Wardens try to stage landings at Thunderbolt; none succeed.

WAR 97, DAY 20, THERIZO, Terminus --- Although it may seem that all is quiet on the Eastern Front of Terminus, in truth it is a bloodbath of attrition, blue and green alike. Both sides refuge in heavily fortified positions, neither taking even an inch of ground despite hundreds of lives gambled and lost. In this regard it has become a race to see who can field heavier weapons allowing a break to the stalemate.

This effort was first seen by Warden's operating a prototype Swallowtail field machine gun. In it's first engagement it supressed a key Colonial machine gun garrison, allowing Warden infantry to close the distance. Once near they threw Mammons into the Colonial line in an attempt to breach it.

Following this a second wave of Warden grenadiers closed on the suppressed machine gun garrison. Taking them by surprise though a Colonial G40 Sagittarii field machine gun opened fire from Colonial lines. Now the crew of the Swallowtail were faced with a dilemma, under heavy fire from Colonial G40 but unable to respond as they must continue suppressing the machine gun garrison, else their comrades would be exposed to it.

As darkness falls a bold Colonial counter push, concealed by the darkness, armed with nothing but Bombastones forces the Wardens back. This unexpected effort immobilises the Swallowtail, it's gunner coping shrapnel and being unable to operate. Forced to hastily withdraw with their field machine gun Caovish troops take the defensive against their Mesean counterparts. Eventually though as the Colonials bodies pile up, on top of the previously advancing Wardens a realisation occurs. Even with the additional field machines the Wardens and Colonials received did nothing more than cementing the ongoing stalemate even more.
